Day 1

I have never blogged before, so this is a new adventure for me! I decided to begin blogging because I have so many thoughts and ideas that roam around my head, I thought this would be a great way for me to get them in one place and share them with others. I am constantly looking around my home for new projects. I was recently on vacation and accomplished SOOO much around my house! For example:

  • I cleaned out and reorganized my garage. Now, my daughter actually asked me if the garage "grew". It is so wonderful to be able to find everything I need when I need it. I also created a work area with a fold away counter. Love it!
  • I reorganized my closet. This was an amazing transformation! I am lucky to have a walk-in closet for starters, but having an organized walk-in can be a challenge. Shoe racks, lingerie chest, bookshelf, and determination all made the organization a success. I am oh so proud of my closet!
  • I finished landscaping around the newly installed patio. Yes, in May, my son and I started digging a large hole for the patio. When I came across an undetected wire, I had to call in reinforcements...DAD! My Dad came to our rescue. He helped us finish in just a couple of days. I didn't want the cookie-cutter patio, so I came up with something that fits us. We love it. But the landscaping wasn't completed until July. I didn't want just any old plants...patience pays.
  • New railings for the deck were built (thanks Dad and Nicholas {my son}). I found spindles at a yard sale...31 to be exact...for only $17.00! I only spent an additional $13.50 at Menard's to completely change the look of the deck. It feels bigger and makes a great back entrance. We did prime the entire deck, but I haven't chosen my paint color yet...again, patience. If I take my time, I find I love it in the end, rather than just "like" it.
  • I had an old desk and computer hutch that did not go together in the least. One was free along the road (desk) and one was $20.00 at Office Max on clearance because it didn't go with anything. Looked like it was straight out of the 80s! Well, I gave them new life! They match now and look great!
  • Painted and hung shelves up in my bedroom over my bed in lieu of a headboard. And WOW! I love it!
As you can see, I enjoy a good DIY project. I will be posting about these projects, with pics, but today I just wanted to get some thoughts out and give you an idea of what this blog will be about.

Many people ask my advice on organization, decorating, painting, landscaping, etc...so here I am! Ask away! I would love to help in any way I can. I will be sharing posts regarding all of these topics (and more) and will be posting pictures to track the progress. If you would like to bounce an idea off me, please do! And if you take my advice, please post the before and after pics so we can all see what amazing work you have done! :) Gotta love The Finishing Touches!

Thank you for stopping by! Please come again!
