No More Blah About It

I had this plastic tray just hanging out in the back of one of my kitchen cabinets. I would like to use it, but it's just sort of...blah.

I decided a simple, easy project was in order. I took some white, spray primer and gave the outside a good coating. I then painted it with white craft paint to give it a nicer look. (I actually did the priming and painting before I got sick, this has been in the works a while.)

I found this fun embellishment in the craft section and decided it was just what the edges needed.

I don't plan on putting stuff in this tray that will get it too dirty, so this will spruce it up nicely. I thought it would be a great tray for a variety of wrapped candies or dry goodies. This can not be submerged in water after being painted and with the embellishment, so dry items it is. I can just wipe it out with a damp cloth.

Here's a close up of the embellishment on the edges. I just hot glued the embellishment on.

With Halloween just around the corner, I put a variety of goodies in the sections for everyone to enjoy. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's will get their chances, too. :)

After taking the final picture, I decided to add a little more of the embellishment to the middle dividers.

I like it better. Here is it all done with the candy. Yep, just what this blah little tray needed. :)

This is such an inexpensive project, so easy, and was just fun.  Sometimes, simple is all one needs! So next time you see an item that is just blah, think twice about passing it up. Make it our own! What do you think? You want a piece of candy, don't you? Yep. Me too.

  1. I like this idea alot. What a good way to repurpose something that would normally not get used that mush if at all. Good job.

    1. Thanks! It turned out pretty good and looks great on the kitchen counter. Now if I could just leave the candy alone!
